An urban block in Mill Hill
This site forms part of a redevelopment of the former Mill Hill Barracks. The outline planning consent for the redevelopment established design parameters such as: street layout and widths, the maximum heights of the buillt form, materials to be used, and the mix of dwellings to be provided.
Overall the site comprises 2174 dwellings. 110 homes are delivered in this phase, and there are a range of dwelling types including terraced housing and blocks of flats arranged around a shared courtyard garden.
The site owner wanted to ensure delivery of a high quality overall product built on time. They therefore sought competitive bids from developers for each phase comprising: a detail design proposal, a statement of compliance, a statement of delivery, and a financial offer.
Our client Sanctuary commissioned us to prepare the design for the bid. Following selection of Sanctuary as the preferred developer, we achieved planning consent for a scheme. The built form is a perimeter block, with the apartments located in the blocks to the east and west and the houses along the other sides.
