Crayford gets a new focus
Alan Camp Architects won an open competition to masterplan Crayford Town centre in 2005, providing the cornerstone for the creation of public facilities, homes and a new focus for Crayford.
The proposal reconnects the site with the adjoining town centre to form a cohesive, pedestrian friendly landscape, that reinvigorates the town. A number of amenities including a new library and restaurant are located at street level with residential accommodation at first floor level and underground parking.
The new buildings are arranged around a series of courtyards that form new social spaces. A piazza links a landmark library with existing shops and restaurants with the existing Town Hall converted into a restaurant. Additional retail and a doctor’s surgery are accommodated in new building’s within Phase II. The residential accommodation is a mix of private and affordable units, ranging from one bed flats to family sized maisonettes with gardens.
