Macmillan's coffee morning

Alan Camp Architects took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan’s raising £150 for people facing cancer. A wide selection of cakes were both home baked and brought, there was no star baker awarded as the only winner was Macmillan's.

Every year the office goes out as a team to socialise over something more than a coffee or an office lunch. This year’s office annual office trip was to the globe for a Shakespearean comedy. Whilst the unforgiving seats might not have been funny for some the light hearted banter bubbled into the night at Madison’s rooftop bar and restaurant.   

Bell Road Approval

Last night we received planning for Bell Road. The proposals includes 127 residential units, 1,127sqm of retail & commercial floor space.

The development is underpinned by the concept of a sustainable and accessible environment, transforming a redundant environment into one that contributes to the continued enhancement and regeneration of Hounslow town centre.

A new Associate

Congratulations to our three technologists Lindsey, Natalie and Joe. After months of hard work, compiling reports about their experience and a gruelling interview. Yesterday they received the good news that they have all qualified as a Chartered Architectural Technologists.

An Educated approval

Last night we received planning approval for 47 dwellings on a disused school playing field, for Riversmead Housing Association. The scheme will fund a new sports centre and classrooms for Chauncy School. Despite discussions over the sale of the playground the planning committee were satisfied that it met the tests set out in national and local policy for the release of the land for residential purpose.

mastering the concrete frame

A recent site visit to Masterman garages shows good progress is being made by Osbornes with the concrete frame. The scheme is for Southwark council and will deliver 25 homes as part of the council's regeneration plan.



ACA vs PWC 7 a-side football

Friday night saw the now regular fixture of ACA Vs PWC 7 a-side football match. Following the internal football match the night before we didn’t have the legs or the players to put up a serious challenge. Unfortunately ACA have not managed to win on the larger pitch and suffered their second successive defeat to PWC and now tie the series so far. We’ll challenge them to a 5 aside match next time and regain our winning ways!

Acton Town Hall Approved

Last night Ealing Council planning committee approved unanimously our scheme for 71 Dwellings at Acton Town Hall. The proposals for One Housing Group involved the conversions of the existing 1910 & 1930's buildings as well as new build homes.

We conducted extensive discussions with London Borough of Ealing, English Heritage, key stakeholders and members of the public through the public consultation event. This led to the addition of a further 2 dwellings from our original feasibility study.

Progress on Bacton

Todays site visit to Bacton low rise should that good progress is being made. The development for Camden Council and being constructed by Rydon is due to complete later this year.

Christopher House update

Purelake are well under way with the construction of Christopher House, our mixed used development for Hotel and Halls of residence in Sidcup.

The Premier Inn hotel will contain 106 rooms with associated facilities, including reception and restaurant and landscaped courtyard, as well as service areas: refuse and recycling store, and 26 car parking spaces, 22 located within Marlowe House Car Park and 4 on-site spaces.

Halls of residence, operated by Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance, will provide 168 rooms grouped into flats containing six rooms and shared kitchen/ living/ dining rooms. The the ground floor the college will benefit from two flexible studio/ conference spaces.

Planning approval in Balcombe

We have just received delegated planning permission for a back land site in Balcombe for Affinity Sutton. The site had restricted access and required a sensitive design approach to fit within the context of the Village. We assisted in realising the development potential of land which was otherwise left over grown and underutilised, but will now generate money through our design approach and the approval.

Making tracks at Park View!

Our residential scheme at Park View Road, Welling, for Hexagon Housing Association is nicely on track! A backland site with restricted access provides 26, two, three and four bed family houses. We have been involved with the development from the initial feasibility stage. The scheme is currently being built by Purelake Homes and is set for completion early March 2015.

Cooking for Charity

The practice has embraced its culinary skills over the past year producing many fine feasts for the midweek practice meal. On a simple £3 per person budget, international menus have included Paella, Thai curries, BBQ, Chinese and Turkish Cuisine.

We have been baking for charity in our own Great Bake off, cakes have ranged from a humble scone to chocolate cakes.

Through the cooking events we have raised over £1,000 in total, which has been donated to local charities.

Amelia Street receives planning approval

Yesterday we received planning approval from Southwark council for 55 dwellings on Amelia Street. The development is staggers in height from two storeys raising to nine and is for Family Mosic.

Park View Road

Movember Manliness

Eight of our staff have taken up the challenge to grow their own special moustache in the aid of Movember raising funds for prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health issues. Roehampton Lane Construction Update

Roehampton Lane is currently being constructed by Kingsbury Construction of One Housing group. In our latest site visit the development was progressing nicely with the Brickwork and roof complete as well as the first fix installed. More details of the scheme can be found on the project page.

Bacton Basics

On Bacton Low rise we are using Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) for the construction of 22 residential units for LB of Camden. Rydon Construction suggested the use of the CLT system for the 5 storey development to ensure that the scheme could be delivered for the completion date of March 2015. With the current progress on site the development looks as if the completion date will be met.

Triangle Court amongst its Piers

A recent site visit to Triangle Court, Pier street showed that block three is nearing completion at the end of the month. The development for Gateway Housing Association provides 27 flats as part of a 167 dwelling scheme and is being constructed by Allen Build South East

Marketing suite now open

Newman House, the 1970s office block that stood there previously, was demolished in May 2012. It’s making way for Russell Square, the new development and part of the regeneration of Horley town centre. It has now opened its marketing suites to the public, the scheme us due to complete early next year.

That approval Rocks

Last night we recieved unanimous support from the planning committee in the approval of a mixed use tower located adjacent to a railway viaduct in Rockingham Street, Elephant and Castle. The scheme provides thirty residential units over thirteen storeys with the existing ground floor and basement restaurant usage retained.

The proposed aesthetic features a modern brick design with high quality brickwork in varying shades of grey with deep window reveals and narrow shadow gaps.

Goal-den Girl

Following the practice day out, an annual Testimonial for Lindsey took place at Docklands Settlements. Lindsey rose to the challenge and netted 4 goals in a dramatic and traditional win for Team Simon. The final score was 11-6. Maybe the next match will be played on the pitch we designed at Docklands settlement Rotherhithe.

ACA an Olympic event

ACA practice day out was at the Olympic Park. We spent the morning looking around the East Village, the Health Centre and Cobham School. After a picnic lunch we ventured around the Olympic park taking in the sites of the Aquatic Centre, the Velodrome and going up the Orbit. The real sporting event was held later in the evening.

Roseberry nears completion

Roseberry street is being built by Bugler Developments, the scheme is almost complete with only a couple of months left prior to the formal handover. The show flat is completed and demonstrates the quality of the spaces available within the development.

After our first external football match against PWC on Friday. We are pleased to announce that we WON 9-8! It was a close game which lead to extra time to ‘next goal wins’. Dan scored the winning goal! Joe scored a hattrick but the players man of the match went to Tim!

PWC have already requested a rematch and we also welcome other challengers!

All change in Brentford

Twelve weeks after being appointed we received planning approval for a site adjacent to Brentford Station.

The development of 8 family semi-detached houses had been subject to a detailed process of design review and change to deliver a scheme of modern and contemporary architectural excellence which will signifi cantly enhance the local conservation area setting, and offer a welcoming replacement to the redundant builders yard.

The Planning Committee were  impressed with design solution, and we secured an emphatic and unanimous planning approval

Team Football - new kit

To christen our new football kits Team Gurj vs Team Simon battled it out at the local pitch. Team Simon went into half time with a slender 2-0 lead. Despite an unstoppable wonder goal that would have graced any world cup stage by Chris for Team Gurj it wasn’t enough. At full time Team Simon won 10 – 6.  

Hat trick for Waltham Forest

Last night we received unanimous support by Waltham Forest planning committee who granted planning permission for three garage sites. The sites form part of the Investment Partners site disposal of garage sites within Waltham Forest that Network Housing Association are purchasing.

Both Lancaster Road and Jewel Road are single 2 bedroom shared ownership dwellings that see the continuation of their respective adjacent Victorian terraces.Farnan Avenue will provide a pair of modern 3 bed semi detached shared ownership properties with off street parking directly opposite the magistrates court.

Team football

The first ACA football match had all the build up of the opening of the premier league. With each of ACA's new partners bringing their respective teams to the field. Whilst the outcome was a victory for team Simon, team Gurj will continue to dispute that the winning margin was by 5 goals. I'm sure that Gurj's team will have their revenge next time!

Award winning partnership

On Friday Alan Camp Architects had 3 projects in the Finals of the 2013 LABC Regional Building Excellence Awards. To complete the success of the night we were awarded Winners of the Best Partnership with a Local Authority for our partnership with Lewisham Building Control. 

LABC Chief Executive Paul Everall said “When architects work across sites – often miles apart – they don’t want to deal with several building control teams.  That’s why our partner authority scheme is so important.  It means multi-site developers can partner with just one building control team for all their projects – just like Alan Camp Architects do with Lewisham Council’s building control team.”

Solar so good for government house

Crosby Row is looking up

Eltham Baths nearing completion

Eltham Springs development a scheme we designed for L&Q is due for completion later this year; on a recent visit the external fabric was almost complete. The development provides seventy eight flats and houses with twenty two designated for the over 50’s, with basement car parking on the site of former swimming baths in Eltham.

Official opening of Conway House

Yesterday Alan Camp Architects attended the official opening of Conway House for Irish Centre Housing. The opening was marked by a 1:50 scale Conway House cake was officially cut by Cllr Sarah Hayward, Leader of LB Camden Council, addresses were also made by Tricia Durkan chief executive of ICH, Ingrid Windows the Director of Faculty Community Studies at City of Westminster College and Sally Buckley the Chair of ICH.

Residents were welcomed in last December; the building provides 60 units of en suite accommodation as well as training facilities.  ICH will be working in partnership with WestminsterCollegeto offer a number of accredited training courses to residents.

Progress on Waverley Road

The latest site photos show that construction has progress well on site since starting last October. The main two storey brick construction is complete, with house roofs being constructed and the metal frame for the third floor flats in place. Planning approval for Grass Warren

Last night East Herts Council approved the scheme for 8 dwellings comprising of 3 No. two bed bungalows, 4 No. three bed semi-detached houses and a 4 bed detached house. One councillor commended the scheme for gaining the support of the parish council.

Lunching for Crisis

Waverley Road on Firm Footings

Alan Camp Architects have recently completed the detail design and construction of Peter Barbers Ziggurat Homes for Southern Housing Group. Working together with Geoffrey Osborne Ltd, we completed the construction of this development which occupies a narrow site backing against industrial buildings and a student housing block, adjacent to Stepney Green Conservation Area.

Monies were raised for Paintings in Hospitals, a local charity (no.1065963) that lends original works of art to hospitals, hospices and other healthcare facilities throughout the UK.
