Webber Street scheme receives planning approval

Webber Street Scheme Receives Planning Approval

Planning permission has been secured for a £13 million new housing development in Southwark for Hexagon Housing Association which will create 75 new affordable homes.

The new homes – 75 one-, two- and three-bedroom affordable flats – will be built by John Laing Partnership on the site of a former car park in Webber Street.

The design incorporates blocks of different heights stepping up towards a railway viaduct. This aspect of the building offers protection from noise and pollution using ‘winter gardens’ – a balcony system with glazed vertical louvres. The vivid, multi-coloured render behind the winter gardens on these facades will add colour to the cityscape when viewed from the railway. A south-facing courtyard will create a suntrap and, through planting and landscaping, forms a ‘green lung’ in the heart of the complex.
